The Chinese Cemetery in Havana!

CEMENTERIO CHINO, Habana (Vedado),2004

I went to Cuba for my project in 2003 and 2004;" The last generation Chinese in Cuba".This project concerns the chinese community in Havana.

The first chinese came to Cuba in 1847 as indentured labor for

the sugar plantations. Some chinese came from California to set up

grocery stores.War and communist revolution in china brought waves...

The chinese population numbered about 200,000 at its peak.

Since the 'second' communist revolution in Cuba,the young generation

moved to Miami, New York and other places.. 

at the moment there are only 280 chinese left in Cuba,
the average age of the chinese is 80 years old...

is until MARCH 2006 ,(instead of december 2005)
It is near the central station Amsterdam,next to the passenger terminal.

pre-study (2005)for 'star ferry movements'

Dit is een voorstudie voor de expositie Star Ferry Movements.Toen het Muziekgebouw
aan het IJ nog niet af was, ging ik met Ting en Jan Wolff kijken.(zomer 2005)
Ting en ik mochten daar exposeren met werk gerelateerd aan Hong Kong-China tijdens het Chinafestival.Ik was naar mijn geboorteplaats,Hong Kong gegaan om de 'bewegende' straatbeelden te maken.
hieronder zie je straatbeelden, ik wilde onderzoeken hoe ik beweging in beeld kon brengen. Uiteindelijk heb ik het niet zo letterlijk toegepast.

This is a picture of my "UNMASK" exhibition(Installation)last year January in Chicago (ARC Gallery).photo projection on 4 layers curtain...
And this is now a pre study for the next concept.

Nicaragua(Granada), in een voormalig klooster-ziekenhuis....
Het heeft lang geduurd om ze over te halen
voordat ik naar binnen mocht. Helaas heb ik geen foto gemaakt van
de binnenplaats met een groot mangoboom.
Dit gebouw is echt spookachtig bizar.
Reyna Orlando Jose,Aquirres Adela Guadalupe,en de kinderen...wonen hier.
